An Overview
At The Quay School we are committed to providing all our students with a comprehensive programme of Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) and Work Related Learning (WRL).
The main purpose of CEIAG is to provide students with the opportunity to engage in a range of activities that will contribute to their knowledge and understanding of the world of work and the training and education pathways suitable for students’ individual needs. The Quay School is committed to not just fulfilling its statutory requirements in this area but also to helping students to recognise and overcome barriers to enable to make a successful transition into post-16 options. The school recognises that a ‘one size fits all’ approach is not a suitable delivery method and aims to provide individually tailored support and guidance to meet the diverse range of needs our students have. The support offered by The Quay School does not end once a student leaves us, but is continued on to ensure a smooth transition onto their chosen pathway.
All students at the Quay School take part in a CEIAG programme that is designed to prepare students for the transition to the next stage of education or employment through:
- Raising student aspirations
- Offering a range of courses that are appropriate to the needs of our students
- Building strong connections with employers
- Improving understanding of the world of work
- Ensuring appropriate, comprehensive and impartial face-to-face provision and guidance through an independent adviser.
- Empowering students to plan and manage their own futures
- Actively promoting equality and challenging gender stereotypes
- Successful supported transition to the next stage of education and employment
The Quay School delivers Careers and Enterprise Education through a cross-curricular approach. Our careers programme is designed in line with Gatsby Benchmarks and builds on our Careers Education Policy.

Work Experience and Employer Engagement
Work experience is extremely important for our pupils, offering them the opportunity to succeed, build confidence and learn new skills. The benefits of work experience as preparation for the world of work are immeasurable and lead to greatly enhanced life chances.
The Quay School works together with Education Business Partnership to provide meaningful and successful work placements http://www.ebp-sw.org/workexperience.
We are also part of the local Enterprise Adviser Network working with the Careers and Enterprise Company to create more opportunities for pupils to engage with local employers. Research shows that ‘a young person who has four or more encounters with an employer is 86% less likely to be unemployed or not in education or training, and can earn up to 18% more during their career’ https://www.careersandenterprise.co.uk/enterprise-adviser-network.
We are always looking to hear from employers who would like to offer placements to our students. Work experience can beneficial to employers as well as to students, as is set out in this article https://www.asdan.org.uk/blog/2017/11/13/how-employers-can-benefit-from-offering-work-placements.
If you are an employer or know of a business that would like to get involved in any way please contact Amy Raymond, Careers Adviser, or Russell Arnold, Headteacher, on 01202 716910/01202 674205
